Who is Seth Rogen?
Seth Aaron Rogen is a Canadian actor and comedian. He is famous for his role as Britt Reid in ‘The Green Hornet,’ an American Action movie he co-wrote.
He is also popular for ‘The Interview,’ ‘The Night Before,’ and ‘Long Shot.’
Besides sitcoms, the 39-year-old actor has also featured in animated movies like ‘The Lion King,’ ‘Kungfu Panda,’ ‘The Simpsons,’ and ‘Invincible,’ where he played various voice roles.
Seth Rogen weight loss journey
Seth’s weight transformation was inspired by his determination to become better at his career.
The Primetime Emmy Award nominee, who often suffers breathing difficulties because of his physique, thought it was time to improve his health and become more efficient in his profession.
Previously, he had had to use a ventilator at intervals during the ‘Observe and Report’ movie shoot in 2009.
He was displeased he couldn’t go through the shoot normally like other actors and resolved to work on his weight.
In his words,
“To make an action movie, you have to be in some sort of physical shape just to do what you need to do, take after take.
On ‘Observe and Report,’ we had a fight scene, and I literally had to go on a ventilator between takes because I was so out of shape.
I remember thinking, ‘Next action movie, I should do something about this.“
He had also said,
‘I realized if I was going to make Green Hornet, I needed to lose weight. Aside from how the character is supposed to look, I couldn’t physically make the movie in the shape I was in.’
Seth, after that, employed a fitness trainer to help him lose weight.
Seth Rogen weight loss secrets
From what we have seen in previous weight loss articles, effective weight loss is almost always influenced by two factors – diet and exercise.
Seth’s weight loss secrets consisted of a 5-Factor Diet designed by his fitness trainer Hаrlеу Pasternak, including routine workouts.
This 5-Factor diet comprises five ingredients from five food groups; protein, carbohydrate, fiber, fat, and fluid.
The plan was to eat five times a day with three meals and two snacks in between.
I have given a prototype of Seth’s diet below.
Seth’s Rogen weight loss diet
Seth’s meals generally consisted of proteins and vegetables.
Below is a typical menu of Rogen’s 5 Factor Diet.
Rogen’s diet includes oatmeal, chia seeds, eggs, hemp seeds, and smoked salmon for Protein.
He had blueberries, grapefruit, and bananas for fruits.
While proteins saw his lean muscle build-up, the fruits took care of his energy level.
Seth ate lettuce, zucchini, bell pepper, cabbage, carrot, and cauliflower for vegetables.
This was to help reduce hunger cravings and junk food intake.
This meal comprised;
- Freshly baked veggie chips, or
- Olive oil fried veggie chips dipped in either hummus sauce or salsa sauce.
For lunch, Seth took fiber and protein-rich foods.
His favorite meal combinations were;
- Protein salad enriched with green veggies
- Grilled chicken served with egg omelets, and
- Spaghetti squash chicken pasta cooked in olive oil.
Seth had dry fruits and protein shakes for mid-day snacks in tiny quantities.
Rogen’s dinner menu is comprised mainly of proteins and greens.
- Chicken breast
- Fat-free turkey
- Pork loin
- Fresh sashimi
Seth Rogen weight loss exercises
With the help of his trainer, Seth works out five days a week for 45 minutes per day.
His exercises mainly consisted of high-intensity interval training, and the goal was to work two muscle groups every day.
Seth’s workouts for the upper body were barbell bench press, inclined barbell press, and weighted pull-ups.
While the pull-ups target the latissimus dorsi, rhomboids, and trapezius, the other exercises work the chest muscles and the deltoids.
For lower body exercise, Seth did lunges, squats, weighted leg press, leg curls, and leg extensions, all of which target the gluteal, calf, and thigh muscles.
The only problem Seth faced during the weight loss journey was skin sagging. However, his dietician and fitness trainer, Hаrlеу Pasternak, advised that it’ll improve with continuous strength training.
His trainer also added weights to his workouts to help him build muscle mass quickly.
Lessons from Seth Rogen weight loss story
After thoroughly examining the actor’s weight loss journey, I have come up with three important lessons for anyone with a weight loss goal.
1. Junk food is bad for your weight
If you’re looking to lose 30 pounds or more like the sitcom actor, then you must be ready to cut off on junk foods.
Seth Rogen used to be a fan of cheeseburgers and fries, but he abandoned the habit for healthy alternatives.
Like Seth, you can munch some freshly baked or olive oil-fried veggie chips instead of chewing on junk.
2. Discipline pays off
Though Seth was uncertain about his willingness to give up his favorite sweets and junk, he let go of his unhealthy cravings.
The result is what you’re reading now – his 30-pounds weight-loss transformation story.
Explaining his weight loss, Seth said;
“I go there real early in the morning”
“He tells me what to do, and I go home and go to sleep, and it’s like it never even happened.
I’ve been eating better and training — and hating myself for it. I feel like a sellout, I feel lame, I feel like a guy I would make fun of.”
Like the Canadian actor, you can hire a fitness coach to help you stay focused throughout your weight loss journey.
Also, consider signing up for workout classes at gyms near you to keep you motivated.
3. Stay positive and determined
Weight loss can be frustrating, especially when you aren’t getting your desired result.
However, you need to stay positive and believe that it’s attainable.
Seth Rogen said;
“It’s not a mystery that if you eat healthy food and exercise, you will lose weight. It will work for anyone.
People know how to lose weight, they just don’t, and I embrace that mentality for the most part because I’m lazy.
But it’s good to know I could do it, and I hope to be healthier than I was just to live longer, which is a goal of mine.”
“I like it: My goal? Live longer!
The truth is, anyone can lose weight.
